PREPARING FOR THE TRAINING EXPERT POSITION – ECONOMIC ACCELERATION AND RESILIENCE FOR NEET (EARN) PROJECT

1. UNDERSTAND THE ROLE IN DEPTH
• Review the full job description and note the five key responsibility areas: design and delivery of inclusive training, capacity building of trainers, community engagement, quality assurance and learning, and SEA/SH risk mitigation.
• Identify the specific percentages of time allocated to each area – this indicates the priority of tasks and where you should focus your preparation.
• Familiarize yourself with CARE Bangladesh’s vision, mission, values and the “EARN” project objectives. Understand the NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) target group in Bangladesh and the national policies on youth employment, gender equality and climate resilience.

2. MATCH YOUR QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• Education: Ensure your academic credentials (MDS or relevant master’s degree) are clearly listed on your CV, with any specialization in gender studies, sociology, development studies, anthropology or social work highlighted.
• Experience: Map at least ten years of professional experience to each of the required skill‑sets – NGO/development agency work, GESI integration, GBV/SEA/SH prevention, training‑of‑trainers, curriculum development for youth, especially for women and disadvantaged groups.
• Create a two‑column table on a separate sheet (not a markdown table) that pairs each requirement with a concrete example from your career (project name, your role, outcomes, numbers).

3. UPDATE YOUR RESUME AND COVER LETTER
• Use a clear, chronological format. Place a “Key Competencies” section at the top – list items such as “GESI mainstreaming,” “SEA/SH risk mitigation,” “Curriculum design for NEET youth,” “Capacity building & ToT,” “Climate‑responsive training”.
• In the work‑experience bullets, quantify achievements: e.g., “Designed and delivered 12 gender‑responsive vocational training modules reaching 1,200 NEET youth, 55 % of whom were women; 78 % secured income‑generating activities within six months.”
• In the cover letter, reference CARE’s core values and explain why you are motivated to contribute to the “EARN” project. Mention any previous work with government ministries, community groups or youth information centers.

4. COMPILATION OF SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS
• Certified copies of academic degrees and transcripts.
• Letters of reference (preferably from senior officials in NGOs or development agencies) that attest to your experience in GESI, SEA/SH and youth training.
• Samples of training materials you have developed (training manuals, facilitation guides, monitoring tools) – redact any confidential information.
• Proof of any relevant certifications (e.g., gender mainstreaming, safeguarding, project management).

5. RESEARCH AND CONTEXTUAL KNOWLEDGE
• Study Bangladesh’s Youth Policy, the National Women Development Policy, and the Climate Change Strategy – be ready to discuss how your training design would align with these frameworks.
• Review recent CARE Bangladesh reports and publications to understand their current interventions, language and terminology.
• Identify key partner organizations in the “EARN” project (DYD, PMU, UN agencies, local NGOs) and learn their mandates.

6. PREPARE FOR THE INTERVIEW
a. Competency Questions – practice the STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) method for each of the following:

– Designing a gender‑responsive curriculum for disadvantaged youth.
– Leading a SEA/SH prevention and response strategy.
– Conducting a training‑of‑trainers session that improved facilitator skills.
– Engaging community leaders to shift social norms around women’s economic participation.
– Developing monitoring frameworks that linked training outcomes to employment data.

b. Technical Questions – be ready to discuss:

– How you integrate climate‑resilience concepts into vocational training.
– Methods for assessing and addressing gender‑based barriers in learning environments.
– Approaches for measuring behavioral change related to social norms.
– Design of referral pathways and grievance mechanisms for SEA/SH cases.

c. Case Study/Presentation – anticipate a task where you must outline a training program for 200 NEET youth, with a focus on women and persons with disabilities. Prepare a short slide‑style outline (you can describe the content verbally) covering learning objectives, modules, delivery methods, inclusion strategies, monitoring indicators and risk mitigation.

d. Questions for the Panel – prepare thoughtful queries that demonstrate your strategic thinking, such as:

– What are the current challenges in scaling the Union Youth Information Centers?
– How does CARE envision the sustainability of gender‑transformative training after the donor contract ends?
– Which climate‑related livelihood opportunities are prioritized for NEET youth in the project area?

7. DEMONSTRATE LEARNING AGILITY AND KNOWLEDGE SHARING
• Prepare examples where you introduced new tools or best practices across multiple projects or partners.
• Highlight experiences of mentoring colleagues, facilitating peer‑learning sessions, or developing knowledge‑management products.

8. LOGISTICS AND FINAL CHECKS
• Verify the application deadline and submission platform – ensure all files are in the requested format (PDF preferred).
• Double‑check that you have included your full contact information, a professional email address and a reliable phone number.
• Conduct a final spell‑check and verify that no confidential client names appear in publicly shared documents.

9. POST‑INTERVIEW FOLLOW‑UP
• Send a thank‑you email within 24 hours, reiterating your enthusiasm for the role, referencing a specific discussion point from the interview, and attaching any additional material they requested.

By systematically aligning your background with the specific duties, showcasing measurable achievements, and demonstrating deep understanding of CARE’s strategic context, you will present a compelling case for being the ideal candidate for the Training Expert position on the EARN project. Good luck!
