PRE‑JOB PREPARATION GUIDE
POSITION: Communication Expert – Economic Acceleration and Resilience for NEET (EARN) Project
ORGANISATION: CARE Bangladesh

1. KNOW YOUR EMPLOYER
• Study CARE’s mission, vision, values and the Global Care Network.
• Review CARE Bangladesh’s recent annual reports, newsletters, and press releases to understand current priorities, especially in gender equality, social inclusion and climate‑resilience.
• Familiarise yourself with CARE’s branding guidelines, donor communication policies and the Code of Conduct on safety, security and safeguarding.

2. UNDERSTAND THE CONTEXT
• Read up on Bangladesh’s socioeconomic profile, focusing on youth unemployment, NEET statistics and the gender gap in labour force participation.
• Analyse recent government policies, donor strategies and civil‑society initiatives that address youth employment, women’s economic empowerment and climate adaptation.
• Identify key stakeholders: local NGOs, women’s groups, youth clubs, media houses, donor agencies (e.g., UNDP, World Bank) and community leaders.

3. MATCH YOUR SKILLS TO THE ROLE
• Strategic Communication Design (40 %): Prepare examples where you have designed and rolled out SBCC campaigns, created gender‑sensitive messaging and produced multi‑media content (print, digital, audio‑visual).
• Capacity Strengthening & Media Outreach (25 %): Gather evidence of training partners on storytelling, managing press kits, organising media briefings and curating social‑media platforms.
• Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (20 %): Showcase how you have tracked communication reach, engagement metrics, behavioural impact and produced case studies or success stories.
• Knowledge Sharing & Advocacy (15 %): Highlight participation in policy dialogues, preparation of advocacy briefs and technical support to partners on GESI issues.

4. UPDATE YOUR CV AND COVER LETTER
• Use a clear, two‑page CV. Start with a professional summary that reflects 10+ years of experience in communication, advocacy, gender‑inclusive programming and youth development.
• List each relevant position with bullet‑point achievements that quantify impact (e.g., “Increased campaign reach by 35 % through targeted social‑media strategy”).
• Include technical proficiencies: Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Publisher, online design tools, analytics platforms (Google Analytics, Facebook Insights) and basic video‑editing software.
• Mention language competence – fluent Bangla and English, with experience drafting materials for diverse audiences.
• In the cover letter, explicitly tie your experience to the four responsibility areas, demonstrate knowledge of NEET challenges and state your motivation to work for CARE’s gender transformation principles.

5. BUILD A PORTFOLIO OF WORK SAMPLES
• Assemble 8‑10 samples that demonstrate:
– SBCC campaign concepts and visuals.
– Media kits, press releases and op‑eds.
– Social‑media content calendars and performance dashboards.
– Training modules or facilitation guides on communication and storytelling.
• Ensure each sample includes a brief contextual note (objective, target audience, your role, outcome).

6. REHEARSE COMPETENCY‑BASED INTERVIEW QUESTIONS
• “Tell us about a time you changed a harmful social norm through communication.”
• “Describe how you integrated gender‑sensitive messaging into a multi‑platform campaign.”
• “Give an example of how you handled a communications crisis or negative media coverage.”
• “Explain your process for measuring the behavioural impact of a communication intervention.”
• Use the STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) format and quantify results wherever possible.

7. PREPARE FOR TECHNICAL QUESTIONS
• Be ready to discuss:
– Development of communication guidelines and toolkits for partners.
– Selecting appropriate media channels for rural and semi‑urban audiences in Bangladesh.
– Using data analytics to refine messaging and demonstrate donor value.
– Incorporating climate‑resilience topics into youth‑skill training communications.

8. STAY CURRENT ON TOOLS AND TRENDS
• Refresh your skills in the latest Adobe Creative Cloud updates and explore free design platforms such as Canva for quick prototyping.
• Follow emerging social‑media trends (e.g., TikTok micro‑learning videos) and evaluate their suitability for reaching young Bangladeshi women.
• Review best practices in digital advocacy, influencer engagement and virtual community mobilisation.

9. LOGISTICS & ADMINISTRATION
• Confirm the application deadline (6 December 2025) and submit through the BDjobs portal as instructed.
• Keep copies of all uploaded documents (CV, cover letter, portfolio) for your records.
• Prepare a list of professional references who can attest to your experience in gender‑inclusive communication and youth programmes.

10. FINAL CHECK‑LIST BEFORE SUBMISSION
– All required documents are prepared in PDF format, named clearly (e.g., “FirstName_LastName_CV.pdf”).
– The cover letter addresses the key responsibilities and demonstrates cultural fit with CARE Bangladesh.
– Portfolio links (if hosted online) are accessible without password protection.
– Contact information is up‑to‑date; phone number, email and LinkedIn profile are included.
– Double‑check for any inadvertent use of markdown symbols; keep the text plain and unformatted.

By following these steps you will present a strong, well‑aligned application that showcases both your technical expertise and your commitment to CARE’s goal of empowering NEET youth, especially women, in Bangladesh. Good luck!
