Present Participle.
Perfect Participle.
কীভাবে চিনবেন কোনটি Gerund এর কোনটি Present participle?
নিম্নে Gerund এর ব্যবহারগুলো লক্ষ্য করুন।

🎯Gerund বাক্যে কর্তা হিসেবে বসে। যেমন-
✔ Travelling] might satisfy your desire for new experience.
✔ Reading] English newspaper is a good habit.
Gerund বাক্যে object হিসেবেও বসে। যেমন-
Stop ✔talking.] Raisul Islam Hridoy
We postponed ✔making ]any decision.
Preposition এর পরে অনেক সময় Gerund বসে। Gerund এখানে Preposition এর Object হিসেবে বসেছে। যেমন-
I will call you ✔ after arriving ]at the office.
Please have a drink ✔before leaving.]
I will call you ✔after arriving] at the office.
Please have a drink ✔before leaving.]
I am looking forward ✔to meeting]
Subject complement হিসেবেও Gerund বসে। যেমন-
My cat’s favourite acivity is sleeping.
আবার অনেক সময় শব্দগুচ্ছের সাথে Gerund বসে Gerund Phrase গঠন করে। যেমন-
✔Finding a needle in a haystack] would be easier then what we are trying to do. দুটো শব্দ মিলে যখন একটি অর্থ প্রকাশ করে তখন সেই শব্দ দুটোকে আমরা Compound Noun বলি। Compound Noun গঠন করতেও Gerund ব্যবহার করা হয়। অর্থাৎ Compound Noun এর অংশ হিসেবে বাক্য Gerund বসে। যেমন-
This is my ✔reading room.]
I have lost my ✔sleeping dress.]
The old man uses ✔walking stick.]
Passive sense- এ বাক্য Gerund বসে। যেমন-
I have ten shirts that need ✔washing.](need to be washed).
This letter requires ✔signing. ](needs to be singned)
The house wants ✔repairing.] (needs to be repaired).

🎯এবার চলুন Participles এর ব্যবহার জেনে নেয়া যাক
Participle যেহেতু Adjective মত কাজ করে অতএব, Noun বা Pronoun Participle কে Modify করে। যেমন-
The ✔crying] ]baby had a wet diaper.
The ✔buring] log fell off the fire.
✔Smiling, ]she hugged the painting dog.
Participle যে Noun বা pronoun কে Modify/Qualify করে তার ঠিক আগে বা পরে কিংবা দূরে বসতে পারে। যেমন-
I saw her ✔drawing] a picture. (her কে করেছে তার পর বসে, অর্থাৎ যাবৎ এর অবস্থা বর্ণনা করছে)
I know the boy ✔Standing ]outside the door. (একইভাবে the boy কে modify করে তারপর বসেছে)
Don’t try to get into a ✔running ]bus. (bus-কে করছে তার পূর্বে বসে)
Past Particple- এর ক্ষেত্রেও একই কথা প্রযোজ্য
Don’t sit on a ✔broken] chair. (‘broken’ Past Participle chair কে modify করছে তার পূর্বে বসে)
Perfect Participle বরে ক্ষেত্রে
Present Participle এর স্থলে Perfect Participle ব্যবহার করা যায় যখন একই বাক্যে একই কর্তা একটি কাজ শেষ হওয়ার সাথে সাথে আর একটি কাজ করে। যেমন-
✔Having finished] the work he went to the field.
✔Having failed] towice, he didn’t want to try again.
✔Having gone] trough the instructions, he snatched up the fire extinguisher.
Perfect participle গঠন করা হয় Having এর পর পরই Verb এর past participle form বসিবে।
